Now through September 6, 2024, the second of two annual tax holidays is underway in Florida for purchases of emergency supplies.
A sales tax holiday is a designated period during which certain products can be purchased without paying sales tax. These holidays are typically offered by state governments and are often tied to specific events or purposes, such as back-to-school shopping, energy-efficient appliances, or disaster preparedness.
Disaster preparedness helps minimize the impact of natural disasters. In hurricane-prone Florida, having the right supplies on hand can make a significant difference in comfort, safety and recovery. But the associated cost can be a financial burden for many. A sales tax holiday reduces this burden by allowing residents to purchase essential items without the added cost of sales tax.
Items included range from reusable ice packs, batteries, and flashlights, to coolers, fire extinguishers, portable generators and even pet supplies. You can download a list of Florida’s tax holiday items, price limits and additional information at wwvw.floridarevenue.com/DisasterPrep
If you haven’t pulled all of your emergency supplies together yet, now is the time. Take advantage of this opportunity over the next two weeks because once a hurricane is knocking at the door, the last place you’ll want to be is out running around in stores with half-empty shelves and often higher prices on whatever is left, searching for supplies.
Be hurricane-strong by having a plan and the necessary supplies.
