Rock & Roll Billboards Exhibit Extended at VBMA

The summer continues to rock at the Vero Beach Museum of Art in Riverside Park in Vero Beach, Florida.  The Museum is breaking attendance records this summer, catapulted by the Rock ‘N’ Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip: Photographs by Robert Landau exhibition. The Museum has announced that it will extend the exhibition’s stay to September 15, 2024.

Visitors to the Vero Beach Museum of Art now have more time to relive the music of the 1960s and 1970s through the billboard designs that turned L.A.’s Sunset Strip into a veritable drive-thru art gallery. The Museum announced today that it has extended the stay of the widely popular Rock ‘N’ Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip: Photographs by Robert Landau exhibition through September 15.

Since its arrival in Vero Beach in May, Rock ‘N’ Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip has been a Treasure Coast favorite—evoking nostalgia and joy among museum goers discovering L.A.’s iconic boulevard through the lens of photographer Robert Landau’s camera.

“The extension of the exhibition provides an exceptional opportunity for those who have not yet experienced this unique and rarely seen period in the history of rock and roll,” shares Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell. “It also offers more time for those who wish to return for another look at the period’s latest trends in music, graphic art, and even fine art, captured in Robert Landau’s photographs.”

The exhibition comprises 50 photographs; four of which are presented on a monumental scale. These include 40 images that Landau took—some captured as a teenager when he was living with his father in an apartment above the Tower Records store on the Strip—and ten historical photographs that complement Landau’s to reveal the progression of signage into billboard art, highlighting the intersection of art and advertising.

Vero Beach Museum of Art is on track to break summer attendance records. Impressed with the exhibition, VBMA guests have made repeat visits to the museum, and hundreds have left reviews on the Museum's social media channels.
