Art Meets Science at ORCA

Join ORCA for their first Data Jam Showcase

The Team ORCA Data Jam is a unique competition that challenges entrants to look at real science datasets collected by ORCA citizen scientists and come up with a creative and artistic way to display and share their findings with others.

Participants have chosen a dataset of interest and creatively interpreted their results in a compelling and unique way. Students and adults will stretch their imaginations to create a graphic, story, play, painting, song, dance, sculpture, etc., being sure to accurately summarize and portray the trends from the data. Data Jammers can compete individually or in small teams (2-8 members) for the opportunity to win great prizes. Imagination is the only limiting factor in this competition where art meets science!

Join them on May 10 from 4pm-6pm at the Treehouse in Vero Beach to check out the artistic displays of data and meet with our team to learn more about ORCA and its current projects.

Students and adults have stretched their imaginations to create videos, graphics, paintings, a song, sculpture, and more, all based on our citizen science data. Also on display will be a series of aquatic ecosystem paintings from six local artists from the Vero Beach Art Club and Artist Guild Gallery, that were created for ORCA's Center for Citizen Science. Each painting represents a part of our local waterways, and the artists incorporated ORCA’s research into the series. Data Jammers compete individually or in small teams (2-8 members) for the opportunity to win great prizes. Imagination is the only limiting factor in this competition where art meets science!
