Vero Beach history lovers are in for a treat on June 19, 2025 at 6:00 PM as two beloved local authors, Sue Holbrook and Rody Johnson, come together for a special evening of storytelling, conversation, and community at the Vero Beach Heritage Center and Citrus Museum.
Sue Holbrook, a sixth-generation member of the Kennedy citrus family, brings her deep roots in Indian River County to the stage as she joins Rody Johnson for an informal conversation highlighting Johnson’s body of work. Known for his compelling narratives that bring local history to life, Rody Johnson has written extensively about the Treasure Coast—from the dramatic presence of German U-Boats off Florida’s shores during World War II to the discovery of the prehistoric Vero Man, and the iconic role of Jackie Robinson and Dodgertown in shaping baseball and civil rights.
In addition to revisiting these captivating stories, guests will be treated to a sneak preview of Johnson’s upcoming book on the history of Vero Beach, set to be published this fall. This new work promises to be a rich, insightful addition to the understanding of the area’s evolution—from sleepy coastal town to vibrant community.
The evening will also include opportunities to purchase books by both authors and to meet them in person. Light refreshments will be served, making it a warm and welcoming event for history enthusiasts, longtime residents, and newcomers alike.
Tickets will be available at the door, or may be reserved in advance by calling the Heritage Center at 772.770.2263. Don’t miss this unique chance to connect with the stories and storytellers that shape Vero Beach’s legacy.
